Commissioning a handmade kitchen is one of the best ways to put your own stamp on a property. It gives the opportunity to really customise a part of the home that you are guaranteed to use every day.

With the Wetherby kitchen project, I needed to create something that would work with the unusual shape of the room and cater to the clients’ individual needs. But also, a unique design that would compliment the existing features of the house. Using a combination of dark oak and white lacquer was a key part of this. It helped to tie in with the natural look of the stone, but also broke the cabinetry into more clearly defined areas.

For me the key areas of the Wetherby kitchen are the corner seating area and spice drawer. I love the way the seating area sits into what could have been a wasted area. Making use of every bit of space with the fold up under-seat storage cupboards and shoe rack, even finding somewhere to tuck a few bottles of wine in handy reach. The spice rack is also a pleasure to look at when full. Neat rows of bottles are stacked directly below the hob, exactly where you need them. The plinth moulding and cornice details also help this design to really pop. There are even handy foot notches in the most used kitchen areas.

A kitchen shouldn’t be a merely functional room, it should be a space that is pleasant to be. Somewhere you could just as happily read a book as cook a meal. The Wetherby kitchen is a perfect culmination of practicality and design. Delivering all the details the client needed whilst still having scope for creative flair.
