The Green Man
“Carving Green men is my passion!”
Carving Green men is my passion! A staple of traditional carpentry, Green Men can be found all over Europe, mainly in churches and abbeys. They are a carved face of a man merged with the form of a tree. Despite being frequently discovered hidden in the architecture of old buildings, the history of the Green Man is debatable. Some believe that he is a symbol of life and rebirth whilst others believe he may even be a depiction of Robin Hood. The most common belief however is that the Green Man is a representation of an ancient Pagan deity, the ‘Spirit of Nature’.
It is a rewarding to work on a project that is steeped in history and tradition and to continue crafting work that been created for hundreds of years. Much like the Green Man himself, it is a union of man and wood.
