The brief for this project was to create a bespoke home bar whilst maintaining the original stonework. I recommended the use of fumed Oak as this would be in keeping with the traditional stone building but would allow me the freedom to work on the rest of the design.

After liaising between the client and his architect we settled on this design. The chunky ribs of the wall unit continue up and over the celling, helping the design flow round the room. Each box is lit from behind with LED strip lighting giving a stunning overall effect.

I also added new features to the room, adding a wall hanging and wine rack.

The fumed Oak is one of my favourite parts of the design; it gives a dark imposing look and ties well with the sandstone. Fuming is a natural finishing process. Oak is a light coloured timber but when exposed to the fumes of the chemical Ammonia, it slowly begins to darken.

The finished bar Is an imposing centrepiece to the living area and a great place to enjoy a few drinks; it fits the clients specification exactly.

“After meeting Thomas at an Exhibition I knew he was the man for the job.  I needed someone who could deliver a crisp design of exceptional quality, attributes I found after seeing the craftsmanship involved in Thomas’s work. He kept me well informed and worked well with my architect, delivering a superb finished project on time.

I am looking forward to using the bar well into the future; it is a real statement piece for my home. I will definitely be using Thomas again”
